Richmond Business Park Development

South Africa

The project consists in the construction of a business park containing a shopping centre, big box retailers, office blocks and warehouses. Furthermore, access road will be constructed on the site.

ARQ was approached by RIC Africa, on behalf of Lyners Consulting Engineers, to act as specialist engineers for the geotechnical portion of the work. The geotechnical investigation included soil profiling, Dynamic Probe Super Heavy (DPSH) testing and Continuous Surface Wave (CSW) tests. ARQ was also in charge of the analysis of the collected data and the recommendation of possible extra investigation and foundation solutions.

The CSW tests were performed by Heymann cc in order to obtain the stiffness profile of the in-situ material to predict the settlement based on the proposed loads. Terra-found cc performed the DPSH tests and the excavator used was provided by CSV construction.

ARQ prepared a report containing the results of all the in-situ and laboratory tests, an evaluation of the material encountered on site as well as recommendations for soil improvement and appropriate foundation structures.

The images depict the excavation of tests pits and trenches as well as the DPSH test being performed for the geotechnical investigation at Richmond.
