Coert Van Dyk

Coert is a professionally registered civil engineer with a passion for the field of geotechnical engineering. He has planned and conducted geotechnical investigations for various structures including roads, bridges, railways, residential developments, multi-storey buildings, pipelines, reservoirs and dams. His investigation experience includes fieldwork, interpretation of laboratory test results as well as factual and interpretive geotechnical investigation report writing.
Coert’s design experience includes the design of lateral support, retaining structures, slope stability analysis, piled foundations, shallow foundations, grouting, ground improvement and seepage analysis. He is competent in the field of finite element analysis and regularly uses such packages as an aid in the design process. Coert has a specific interest in the specialized design field of piling and lateral support and has been the lead designer for a well-known geotechnical contractor for the past 5 years. He has spent 10 months on site in Mauritius on an anchored secant pile wall project. His role was full-time design representative and during this period gained valuable experience in the practical aspects of piling and anchoring. Coert has also been the lead engineer on various “full circle” geotechnical construction projects (including lateral support, piling, jet- and compaction grouting) during which he was responsible for the geotechnical investigation, design, tender process, construction supervision and contract management.
Coert is an associate at ARQ and currently heads up the Geotechnical Design department of the company where he leads a team of geotechnical engineers. Coert is also one of two presenters of a tailor-made and ECSA accredited “Practical Soil Mechanics for Earthworks Construction” course which ARQ developed for one of their key Clients to train their staff.
