Paul is a Geotechnical Engineer specialising in the analysis, design, and performance evaluation of tailings storage facilities (TSFs) and related geotechnical systems. His work focuses on advanced numerical stability assessments, with particular expertise in the application of critical state soil mechanics to evaluate liquefaction potential and triggering mechanisms under a range of credible loading conditions. This area of practice places him at the forefront of evolving geotechnical methods for TSF safety and long-term performance.
He has contributed to, and led, numerous stability assessments and design studies for TSFs, encompassing conventional facilities, lined storage facilities, dry stack systems, and buttress stabilisation works. His role includes undertaking advanced NDA-based analyses, interpreting in-situ and laboratory test data, and developing design inputs for feasibility and detailed design stages.
In addition to tailings engineering, his project experience includes slope stability assessments, lateral support works for infrastructure and deep excavations, micropiling, and the geotechnical design of reinforced earth retaining systems. His early career involved extensive site-based experience in piling, anchors, and lateral support on major civil and mining infrastructure projects, providing a strong practical foundation for his current analytical and design work.
