Köroğlu HEPP
Turkey
The Ünal Group, was awarded a license to develop the Köroğlu Dam and associated Hydroelectric Power Projects. The Köroğlu dam is 100 m high and designed by ARQ as an arch/gravity RCC dam, the first in Turkey. Construction at the dam commenced in June 2014 and RCC placement started in May 2015, with completion scheduled for May 2017.
ARQ’s involvement in the design phase included review of feasibility studies, improvements to the river diversion arrangements, production of final designs for the dam and hydropower works, preparation of (and assistance with) an RCC mix development programme, assistance with construction plant and RCC training and supervision.
Principal components of the scheme are as follows:
- A 100m high RCC arch/gravity dam structure with crest length of 370 m, comprising a central arch section and two gravity flanks;
- A controlled spillway, with a total crest length of 56 m long and radial gates;
- A bottom outlet, with a bonneted slide gate and a sleeve valve;
- Two 5 m diameter intakes and penstocks + a bifurcation of 3.25 m diameter;
- A power station building with three Francis turbines (combined flow = 49.5 m3/s); and
- A reinforced concrete river diversion conduit comprising two 4.5m x 4.5m culverts.
