Yusufeli Dam & HEPP

Turkey

The Yusufeli HEPP is the largest scheme in the Çoruh River hydropower development and is being constructed to generate 580 MW of hydropower to meet the rapidly growing electricity demand in Turkey.

The impoundment for the Yusufeli HEPP will be created by a 275 m high, double-curvature conventional concrete arch dam, which will comprise approximately 3.95 million m3 of concrete. The dam will be the highest arch dam in the world outside China. By mid February 2018, approximately 600 000 m3 of concrete had been cast for the dam.

ARQ’s involvement in the project includes all aspects under the role of arch dam specialists/designers. ARQ is responsible for the detailed final structural and thermal design analyses, etc, while the company is also assisting the contractor, Limak with the construction plant design and specification. ARQ is assisting DSI with the dam concrete mix designs and will assist in arch dam specialist aspects and quality control during construction.

ARQ is interfacing with IC Consulenten of Austria, who are providing specialist inputs and analysis for the foundation rockmass and all related investigation and modelling. Su Yapi is responsible for the preparation of the construction and workshop drawings for the dam, as well as for all other design and supervision aspects on the scheme. The contractor intends to complete the concrete placement for the main dam by June 2020.
