Katy is an associate geotechnical engineer at ARQ Geotech (Pty) Ltd. She currently fulfils a lead role in performing advanced numerical stability assessments on geotechnical scenarios and tailings storage facilities – a cutting edge and continually developing field. A large portion of the stability assessments conducted on tailings storage facilities involve critical state soil mechanics to assess potential for liquefaction resulting from potential triggers.
Aside from this, she has been involved in and responsible for numerous geotechnical assessments, investigations, analyses and designs. These include works associated with shallow foundations, lateral support of slopes, various types of earth retaining structures, earth embankment dams as well as mining related infrastructure.
Katy also fulfilled the role of Assistant Resident Engineer for the upgrade of Main Road P318, Sani Pass. She was responsible for design and site supervision of geotechnical aspects of the project including lateral support (soil nail and shotcrete structures) and retaining structures (gabions and Terramesh).
