SAICE Magazine: Port Louis Ring Road, Mauritius by Marie Basson

Over the past six years Mauritius embarked on major road an traffic infrastructure upgrade projects. The Ring Road Phase I project construction was constructed during 2010-2013. In early 2014 cracks appeared on the northbound carriageway, followed by the collapse of a 15 m high MSEW portion of the fill. Marie Basson, Geotechnical Engineer and Engineering Geologist and site Engineer on the Port Louis Ring Road  for the past year and a half wrote an article that summarised the geotechnical investigation conducted to identify the failure mechanisms, the design of remedial measures and the knowledge and understanding gained for use in future projects.
